Candidate visits: It's an intrusion - but a necessary one

He not only accepts personal visits as necessary, even if intrusive, but thinks all candidates should respond to media surveys and questionaires. Adds that sometimes, the personal visits give him reason not to vote for the individual.
Comments re article 65433 Doesn't want candidates to come to her door

By Jon Halsey

I agree with the writer that it can be a bother when candidates come calling. However, I welcome the intrusion. I agree with you, Ed, the personal contact is very important. I tend to look disfavorably on a candidate who doesn't take the time and effort to make that contact.

My personal pet peeve however, is the candidate who can't be bothered to respond to the media surveys and questionaires sent to all of the candidates. I can't recall having ever voted for someone who did not respond.

' The personal contact and the surveys go hand in hand to help me determine if an individuals political philosophy is being honestly stated and will tend to support my concepts of good government.

I remember one candidate who showed up at the door and whose primary purpose for running was that he needed x more years in government for his retirement. He did not get my vote - but darn if he didn't win anyway! I think that says more about the electorate than it does the electee. - Jon Halsey, Knifley
