Larry Walker details fatality gas explosion in Columbia, KY Comments re article 65354 People for miles around remember the 1985 Beaumont Explosion Larry Walker writes: Ed, the Columbia, Ky explosion you referenced was the house across the shared driveway beside the John Sam Potts home. The date would be in the mid 70's - pretty sure it was after the parkway was built. The victim was a Mr. Webb, who ran Ky Tie & Lumber Co. I recall that the home was heated by bottle gas. Mr. Webb's body was found right inside the back door and speculation was that when he turned on a light switch it triggered the explosion. The home was leveled from the explosion and the remains of the house sat there untouched for years. - Larry WalkerThanks for remembering more of the details, Larry Walker - and of course this puts the location on Industrial Drive and not "off Kentucky East 80" - a figment of wishful thinking for those who've always thought the Cumberland Parkway should have had a tunnel at this point, to have given the community a rudimentary Eastern Bypass. - EW This story was posted on 2014-02-16 09:27:40
