Knifley - Old timer Old Coddger remembers last pipeline installed

Comments re article 65349 Question on Adair County pipelines when were they placed

By Old Coddger

Ed, I don't know or have info on the first two (2) of Columbia Gulf's lines in , Adair County, but do have a little memory of the last one installed. Myself along with many other Adair Countians worked on the project when a loop of it was installed in 1970 or 1971.

In fact, the kickoff point of the loop we worked on was only a few hundred yards east of Hwy 76 where the recent accident occurred and ran to a valve station on the east side of Green River Lake.

They we started on the west side of Green River Lake and went to just south of Hwy 80 in the edge of Metcalfe County.

The line we installed is a 36" line and Texas Eastern also has three (3) lines passing through Adair County and they are, one (1)- 30" and two (2)-36" lines. A note that may be of interest is that these lines normally run between 800 to 1000 pounds per square inch of pressure, thus the large explosion/fire, when something goes wrong. These high pressures are necessary to push the volume of gas necessary into the northeast United States. The ages of the Texas Eastern lines are very near the same as the Columbia Gulf lines. - Old Coddger
