Question on Adair County pipelines: when were they placed?

al46mab53 sends a comment and a question
Went through Knifley today (Saturday, February 15, 2014) on my way to Russell Springs, cannot get over the sadness, loss, numb feeling. Does anybody have an idea about when all those gas lines were placed years ago? Surely it has been over 50 years, wouldn't you say? - al46mab53
Thanks: We'll depend on the historians for that. I'm sure it was that long ago for at least one - the first, when Oman Construction came set up in town for what I remember as an exciting two year stay.

Money flowed freely, jobs were available to locals, restaurants, especially the G & M Grill, were packed and tips were at one of their all time highs; every available rental was taken, and local boys had a tough time competing with cash heavy pipeliners for the prettiest girls. It was a day when a good time was had by all. At the time, we seemed to think that getting a pipeline construction crew in town as often as possible would be the economic impetus to make us another Houston.

But the the next company to hit town was all business; The H.C. Price company - with whom I spent my 6 hour pipelining career - which hardly got settled into it's offices over what is now TaP's Diner, until they were gone.

But quite a number of Adair County greats, including Jim Chapman, and Joe Coffey, the late Lowell Smith had more illustrious careers and used pipeline experience as a springboard to greater success.

Maybe someone with better memories can give us more details. Interesting question you pose. Thanks. - EW
