C/AC Parks & Rec wants city to fulfill $25K annual committment Fiscal Court is paying agreed share; City is helping, but its support is now less than 40% of what Chairman Charles Grimsley remembers as the agreed operating support Click on headline for complete Columbia/Adair County Parks & Recreation Report, formal request to City Council for full funding By Ed Waggener Charles Grimsley, Chairperson of the Columbia Parks & Recreation Board, requested that the City of Columbia to fulfill an understanding that it would match a $25,000 annual contribution by Adair Fiscal Court to support the parks system. At present, Fiscal Court is making the contribution in full, but the City of Columbia is paying less than 40% of the contribution. Grimsley made the request at last night's City Council meeting. Mayor Harris said that due to the City's finances the matter would have to be delayed. Grimsley pointed out, after the meeting, that he feels the $25,000 is money well spent. "It comes back to us in better health and less health costs. It's worth it on that alone. But as well, a good Parks & Recreation program will do more for getting new industry than anything we can do for the money." He presented th following detailed report to the council, and said that this is one issue on which he'll persevere: By Charles Grimsley, Chair, Columbia Parks & Recreation (February 3, 2014) - The Columbia-Adair County Parks & Recreation Board met at the regular meeting on January 13, 2014 and made the following recommendation to the City of Columbia: That the City of Columbia fulfill its previous commitment of $25,000.00 annually to be retroactive to the beginning of the current fiscal year and continue this commitment annually on a quarterly basis. The original budget was set up as a joint agreement between the Adair County Fiscal Court and the City of Columbia. The monthly contribution currently from the City is averaging about $810 per month, which is one/half of the principal and interest, with no monies going toward insurance, salaries, maintenance, utilities, and general operating expenses. PROGRAMS:
GRANTS:
PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT: Playground equipment donated by the Adair Co. School System. This spring, the Jim Blair Community Recreation Center will be working on installing the playground equipment and tripling the size of the play areas. GRANT PROPOSAL IN THE WORKS: Drawings have been done and spec sheets are in the works for outside restrooms and added picnic pavilion. *All of these projects require monetary support from the City. The Adair Count Fiscal Court is supporting fully the Park by their transfer of $25,000 just this last week. Our Columbia-Adair County Parks Board ask for your support. Charles Grimsley, Chairman, Columbia/Adair County Parks & Recreation Board. COLUMBIA/ADAIR COUNTY PARKS & RECREATION BOARD meets at 107 High ST Columbia, KY at 5pmCT at the the 911 Building, 107 N.
