Robert Pierce Cotter, Thurmont, MD (1948-2014)

Robert Pierce Cotter of Thurmont, Maryland, leaves a daughter, Robin, wife of Kirby Hancock, and two grandsons in Columbia, KY. He was a native of Virginia. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from New Mexico State University and served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1973-76. He worked in agriculture for the balance of his career. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church & Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Barnesville, and was also a member of the Western Maryland Jousting Club for several years.

Mr. Robert Pierce Cotter, 66, of Thurmont and formerly of Montgomery County, MD, passed away on January 19, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Brenda S. Cotter, his wife of 42 years. Services, at Mr. Cotter's request, will be private.

Born January 8, 1948 in Alexandria, VA, he was the son of the late Paul, Sr. and Elizabeth Cotter. He died Saturday, January 19, 2014, in Frederick, Frederick County, MD, at the age of 66 years, 11 days.

He attended Bullis Prep School in Bethesda, and graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from New Mexico State University and served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1973-76. He worked in agriculture for the balance of his career. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church & Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Barnesville, and was also a member of the Western Maryland Jousting Club for several years.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Cotter is survived by the following:
  • Two daughters: Robin, wife Kirby Hancock, of Columbia, KY, and Renee Cotter of Frederick, MD

  • A sister: Avis Mannino & husband Lou of PA

  • A brother: Paul Cotter, Jr. & wife Joyce of WV

  • Two grandchildren: Hayden and Hudson Hancock

  • And many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Ball. At Mr. Cotter's request, services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21701

Arrangements are with Resthaven Funeral Services in Frederick.
