Five Blue Raider Wrestlers take first place at Cumberland Open

Bradbury, Moinius, McCormick, Gomez and Daniels all take home first place finishes in their respective weight classes in meet on Saturday, January 18, 2014

LEBANON, TN - Myron Bradbury, Wismit Moinius, Zach McCormick, Erick Gomez and Ameer Daniels all went undefeated on the day to give Lindsey Wilson a first-place finish in five of the ten weight classes at the Cumberland Open on Saturday.



Cadyn McKeeth added a second place finish while Gus Adams and Scott Flesher both took home fourth place.

Bradbury recorded pins in all three of his victories at the 125 class en route to his first place finish. He defeated University of the Cumberlands' (Williamsburg, KY.) Alan Frisco in his opening match, before meeting fellow Blue Raider Adams in the semifinal round.

Moinius, who ranks third at the 141 weight class, dominated his matches defeating Gardner-Webb's (NC) Jeyson Guardado with a 21-5 technical fall in his opening match. He followed that performance with pins over Michael Lineberry of Middle Tennessee State and Terry Stockton of Cumberlands in his next two matches. Moinius met Zach Wright of Darton State (GA) in the finals where he defeated him with an 18-1 technical fall for the first-place finish.

McCormick began his day at 157 with a 10-2 major decision over Nick Distasio of Truett-McConnell (GA), followed by a 4-2 decision win over Neal Molloy of Indiana University. He then pinned James McClanahan of Middle Tennessee State and defeated Campbellsville's (Ky.) Joe Whelan with a 6-1 decision in the finals.

Flesher also wrestled at the 157 class, winning his first match with a 10-2 major decision. He fell in his next match to Joe Whelan of Campbellsville before winning his next three matches, two by decisions and one via pin. Flesher would fall in the third-place match to Molloy of Indiana University.

McKeeth won his opening match at 165 by a 16-6 major decision over Hunter French of Indiana University. He defeated Tanner Reynolds of Tennessee-Knoxville with an 18-3 technical fall, followed by a 2-0 decision win over Campbellsville's Justin Brown. McKeeth would fall in the finals to Cumberland's Kirk Johnson, who ranks eighth at 165, by an 8-2 decision for a second-place finish.

Gomez recorded a 12-1 major decision followed by an 11-2 major decision in his first two matches at the 174 class. He then beat Cumberland's Kyle Delaune 5-4 in double overtime in the semifinal round. His opponent in the finals took a medical forfeit, giving Gomez the first-place finish.

Daniels recorded all four of his wins against Mid-South Conference opponents. He opened the 285 class with an 8-1 decision over Jose Jimenez of Cumberlands, followed by pinning Justin Sampson of Campbellsville. Daniels defeated Ross Brister of Cumberland with a 4-1 decision, followed by a 3-1 decision win over Campbellsville's Justin McDaniel in the finals. - Charles Balom
