Click on headline for story with photo(s) By Ed Waggener DME, Inc. (Dakota Meyer Enterprises), 9719 New Campbellsville, KY, was awarded the contract for the Columbia/Adair County Utilities District Wastewater Treatment Plant site restoration and stabilization project, last night, Thursday, January 9, 2014, at the regular meeting of the board. The vote was contingent on Consulting Engineer David Bowles, of Monarch Engineering, re-checking details of the bid and subject, as well to Public Service Commission approval. DME, Inc. was the low bidder of three for the work. The bids, opened just prior to the meeting, were as follows:
The vote, following a motion by board member Rudy Higginbotham, with a second by David Jones, was unanimous. Joining in the affirmative vote were Members David Jones and Barry Stotts, and Acting Chairman Tim Baker, who presided in the absence of Board Chairman Robert Flowers. The work, termed "Phase 17," by the utility, involves a retaining wall on the steep slope behind the plant, and rip-rapping along the bank of Russell Creek to streamline flow and prevent flooding such as happened in May 2, 2010. Glen Mary Drive work complete General Manager Lenny Stone updated the board on other projects: - PHASE 14 - The Downtown Project - Glen Mary Drive main has been laid, with residential tie ins scheduled to start Monday. Stotts Construction plans to complete the Russell Creek Crossing in this phase. - PHASE 15 - The River Crossing - This phase includes the 300,000 gallon water tank on on Russell Road/East 80, which Mr. Stone said, is in the final phase of welding and will be ready for use after meter vaults are installed, after Caldwell Tank gets approximately 6 days of warmer weather to paint the structure, and the pump station is started up. - PHASE 16 - Sewer Project - About where it has stood. Mr. Stone said that with the help of residents in Rolling Hills, the utility may be able to use a gravity fed line which would eliminate the need to replace a lift station there. - CANE VALLEY SEWER PROJECT - the project which will provide sewers for an expansion of Spectrum Care Academy south of Cane Valley, has made a little progress, with issues working out relative to processing the grant money to fund the project and getting all private easements needed. Operational reports GM Lenny Stone also gave operational reports for the year 2013 for the following: - The Sewer System had total billing in 2013 of $557,438.12, for 118,944,560 gallons of water. The year's payroll was $191,722.28. The plant teated 231.8 million gallons of waste water. There was one new sewer tap for the year. - Water Operations had revenues of $816,361.82 for the city, $2,662,574.12 for the County.
