Curtis Grant replies to criticism of the State Highway Department

All roads in each class get equal attention. KY 900 is important, but it is a "C" road. KY 55 is an "A" road. Highway Department has 350 miles of road to maintain.Click on headline for complete commentary

Personal Commentary

As an employee of the State Highway Department here in Adair County, I want to inform the ones who speak before thinking.

We have well over 350 two-lane miles to cover, and we are required to salt and plow (both ways) larger heavily traveled roads first (parkway, north and south KY 55, south and north KY 61, etc); these are called "A" roads; then less travelled "B" roads, then, lastly "C" roads (KY 900, KY 768, etc.)

We always try to cover as much road as possible and still do a good job. Trucks do break down sometimes; roads are curvy, hilly, and they are just as slick and hazardous to us as they are you.

Plus, each truck has its own route to cover. Yes, KY 900 probably was still white when you got there but it wasn't white long because I know personally it was run twice that night, as well as most of the other roads.

Contrary to what Mr. Miller thinks, we show each road equal attention and we care about our community as much as everyone else. After all, we have friends, family, and loved ones traveling the same roads as Mr. Miller does.

Oh, one more thing, I grew up on Road 900, so guess where most of my loved ones are? Do you think I would want them neglected?
