By Chris Wells News from Lindsey Wilson College INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Lindsey Wilson College wrestling team finished in ninth place at the Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis on Saturday and Sunday, December 14-15, 2013 Three Blue Raiders advanced to day two of the tournament which featured the semifinal and final matches for each weight class. Wismit Moinius began his tournament at the 141 class with a 10-0 major decision over Eli Stewart of Ohio Valley (WV) followed by a 2-0 win over Kyle Webb of Lindenwood (MO). Moinius suffered his first loss in a 3-1 decision to two-time NCAA DII national champion Daniel Ownbey of UNC-Pembroke (NC). Moinius defeated Corbin Bennetts of Western State (CO) 9-4 before being taken down in the closing seconds by Justin Kieffer of Indianapolis (IN) to fall in a 4-3 decision for a fourth-place finish. Joe Cozart got off to a hot start with a 14-5 major decision win followed by a pin in his first two matches at the 157 class on Saturday. He added a 3-1 win over Kyle Burns of Ashland (Ohio) followed by a 16-7 major decision over sixth-ranked in NCAA DII Taylor Knapp of Newberry (SC) to advance to the 157 finals. Cozart fell in the finals to top-seeded and second-ranked NCAA DII Zach Vargo of Lake Erie (Ohio) 6-4 to take second at the 157 class. Jameel Bryant began his tournament with a 10-0 major decision at 184 followed by an 8-4 decision over Jared Holliday of Newberry, avenging a loss he suffered earlier this season to Holliday. Bryant then upset top-seeded Blake Sorensen of Upper Iowa with a 6-5 decision. Sorensen was the national runner-up last season at the NCAA DII 174 class. Bryant was taken down in the closing seconds in his final match falling 3-1 to Bryson Hall of Ashland in the 184 finals for a second place finish. Six of the nine Lindsey Wilson wrestlers saw their tournament come to an end on the first day. Gus Adams fell in his first match of the 125 class before pinning Cory Parsons of Ohio Valley (WV) in his next match. Adams fell in his third match in a 10-5 decision ending his day with a 1-2 record. Stephen Myers finished the tournament with a 2-2 record including a 5-4 win over Clay Bunker of Western State and a 14-10 win over Kevin Thompson of Coker (SC). Mitchell Judkins also finished 2-2 with a pin of Jakob Price of Baker (KS). Erick Gomez finished his tournament with a 3-2 record. In his first match, he avenged a loss he suffered earlier this season to Eric Antesberger of West Liberty with a 7-4 decision on Saturday. Gomez fell one match short of placing after he suffered a 9-1 major decision loss to Robert Shade of UNC-Pembroke. Newberry College won the tournament with a team score of 127.0. Host University of Indianapolis tied for second with McKendree University (IL) with 107.5 points. Lindsey Wilson finished with 61.5 team points for a ninth-place finish in a tournament that included six NCAA DII teams currently ranked in the top-25.
