Columbia Police Department investigated a injury collision on December 14, 2013, at 6:43pmCT, approximately 2 miles north on KY 55. The collision occurred when Adair Deputy Justin Cross was dispatched to KY 55 to observe for a vehicle for which Adair and Taylor County 911 services had received multiple complaints of reckless driving .

As Deputy Cross was travelling north on KY 55 he observed the vehicle travelling south in the northbound lane of traffic. Deputy Cross brought his vehicle to a stop, but was unable to move to avoid collision due to a guardrail to his right and oncoming traffic to his left leaving him no choice but to brace for the collision. A 1990 Dodge Ram 3500 truck operated by Dale Willis, age 72 of Taylor county struck Deputy Cross's 2010 Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser head on.

Willis received no injuries and refused medical treatment for injuries while Deputy Cross was transported to Westlake Regional Hospital by police vehicle where he was treated and released. CPD Officer Drew Conn is investigating the collision as to the cause and determining whether any criminal charges will be forthcoming. Alcohol was not a contributing factor and both operators were belted. CPD Ofc. Johnny Dial is assisting in the investigation. - Ofc. Josh Brockman
