LWC Volleyball falls to Biola 3-1

Final match of the 2013 NAIA National Championship play. Blue Raiders finish 2013 with a 36-6 record

SIOUX CITY, IOWA - The Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to Biola (CA) University in their final match of the 2013 NAIA National Championship Thursday night.



The Blue Raiders wrap up the 2013 season with a 36-6 record after going 0-3 in Pool C of the national tournament.

Set one saw the Eagles of Biola jump out to a 5-2 lead. The Blue Raiders would fight back and tie the set at eight. The teams would exchange points until the Eagles held a slight lead at 16-13. Lindsey Wilson would score the next four points to take a 17-16 lead. The teams would trade points with neither team able to gain more than a one point lead as the score became tied at 25 points and again at 26. Alexa Just recorded a kill to give Lindsey Wilson a one-point lead and a ball handling error by Biola gave the Blue Raiders the first set, 28-26.

The second set opened tight with neither team able to gain an advantage over the other. Biola eventually held a two-point lead at 14-12 and again at 15-13 before the Blue Raiders were able to tie it at 15. The lead would be traded again until Biola took a 21-20 lead. The Eagles would hold onto that slim lead and a Lindsey Wilson attack error would give them the set 25-22.

Lindsey Wilson would open set three taking the first three points but the Eagles would answer with a 4-1 run to tie the match at four. The Blue Raiders would hold a 12-9 lead but the Eagles would fight back and tie the match 15-15. Two quick kills by Emily Meeks and Just would give Lindsey Wilson a slim two-point lead but Biola tied the set at 18 and again at 20. The Eagles would close out the set on a 5-1 run to give them the set 25-21 and a 2-1 match lead.

The Eagles came out with force in the fourth set jumping out to a quick 7-2 lead. Biola would open up a 10-5 lead before Lindsey Wilson cut the lead to two with a 3-0 run. The Eagles continued to extend their lead with strings of points only to have the Blue Raiders cut it back down to two points at 18-16. Eventually, the high-powered Biola offense would be too much as they went on a 7-2 run to close out the set 25-18 and take the match 3-1.

Kailey Moorhead led the Blue Raiders with 14 kills on the night followed by Meeks with 11. Just finished with 41 assists while Kirsten King recorded a team-high 17 digs.

The Eagles were led by Joclyn Kirton with 16 kills and Chelsee Arnitz with 13.
