Out of Order: Withholding information not OK --

- Even when board members are not paid

By Ralph Roy Waggener
Who is always out of order!

I understand why people on boards feel they have the right to keep information out of sight of the public, after all they are serving sometimes for no pay.

This has also been the norm for all boards, including Taxing Districts. Had we had pushed harder for all information be made public knowledge Adair County would not have in the financial problems with Westlake we are paying for now.

We most likely would have gotten more bang for our tax dollars in all of our Taxing Districts.

Keeping an open door where our tax dollars are concerned is even more important now than ever. I can see where board members think because they are not getting a pay check that they should not have to report to anyone.

When you serve on a board you are taking on a responsibility to the tax payers to take care of our money, and gives you as a board member no right to privacy just because you are not paid!
