Letter: Distant Cousins with Sergeant York

Nancy Clay writes:
I think this lady that says Sgt. York was in Sparksville 1950-51 and visited with her father Yank Loy has her stories mixed up. Sgt. York has been dead many, many years, my mother Chalma McKinney was a cousin of his I believe he and my Grandfather Emmit York were first cousins. Sgt. Yorks accomplishments are posted below his photo at Ft. Benning, GA in the musuem. - Nancy Clay
Comments re article Sgt. York in Adair County: He stopped by Yank Loy store often

Nancy, thanks very much for writing. We know it's tough to believe sometimes just how many Adair Countians have connections to national figures. However, according to Wikipedia, Alvin York lived until 1964. He spent his latter years in Nashville, which even in the 1950's was a pretty easy drive from Sparksville. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvin_C._York
