Sue Stivers remembers emotions at Sgt. York funeral

Events at Sgt. York's funeral the moving emotional experiene of her life, Sue Stivers says
This moving article prompting on reading: Lee Murphy: A visit to Pall Mall on Veterans Day

By Sue C. Stivers

Lee Murphy's article about a visit to Pall Mall, TN, home of Sgt. Alvin York brought back many memories.

I attended Sgt. York's funeral with a friend of his family and had a prominent seat in the small Church.

To see all those big black cars leaving the funeral home at Jamestown, TN each with a large US flag waving in the air, carrying the 5 star Generals, Governors and other dignitaries, as they escorted the body of Sgt. York to the Methodist Church in Pall Mall, was the most emotional experience of my life.

I still remember the tears running down my cheeks and I could not hold them back. I wasn't alone because everyone else.....men, women and youth were doing the same.

Going to the Cemetery for the burial was also an emotional experience This was one funeral that I shall never forget. Sue Stivers - Sue C Stivers
