LWC Soccer/Men host Park U. in NAIA opening round

KANSAS CITY, MO - No. 4 Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team hosts Park (MO) University in the 2013 NAIA Opening Round at Walter S. Reuling Stadium on Saturday, November 23 at 3pmCT, the national offices announced Monday.



The Blue Raiders (14-3-2, 8-0-1 MSC) are one-of-nine at-large teams that comprise the 32-team bracket that include 23 conference, independent and unaffiliated groups which won their tournament or regular-season titles. Lindsey Wilson is the No. 2 overall seed for the Championship based on the final Modified Ratings Percentage Index. This is Lindsey Wilson's 21st championship appearance and during that time have 48 wins and nine national titles.

The Blue Raiders and the Pirates have met nine times with Park winning the last match 3-0 on September 7, 2009 at Parkville, Mo. In that game, the Blue Raiders outshot the Pirates 14-11 with Park goalkeeper making six saves. Lindsey Wilson leads the overall series 6-3.

Park (11-5, 8-2 AMC) won the American Midwest Conference defeating Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) in penalties 4-2 after the game ended in a 3-3 draw. The win gave Park an automatic berth into the NAIA Opening Round. This is the Pirates eighth championship appearance, reaching the quarterfinals in 2003.

Park started the season 2-4 before going 8-1 in the month of October with two overtime wins - one in double-overtime - and winning two games in the AMC Tournament.

The Pirates are 2-1 when they faced ranked teams this season. Park lost 3-1 to then-No. 15-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene (KS) on September 25. The Pirates defeated then-No. 7-ranked Benedictine 2-0 on October 1 and on October 9 they faced then-No.14-ranked Hannibal-LaGrange (MO) and won 2-0.

Park is led by Carlos Trombini Filho who has a team high 25 points - eight goals and nine assists. Filho played in all 17 games this season for the Pirates and has 32 shots on goal. Filho averages .133 goals per shot while averaging .533 shots on goal per shots attempted. Filho ranks 32nd in NAIA total assists and 33rd in assists per game with .530.

George Kennedy is second on Park with 19 points - six goals and seven assists. Lucas Sousa is third on the team in points with 17 - four goals and nine assists. Sousa also led the AMC in assists per game with .70. Sousa played in 16 games for the Pirates and attempted 29 shots on goal during those games.

Ryan Miller and Reece Harris shared time in goal with Miller playing in 12 games while Harris played in six. Miller made 36 saves while allowing 16 goals with two shutouts going 8-3-1 on the season. Harris made 16 saves while allowing seven goals with two shutouts going 3-2-0.

As a team, Park is ranked fourth in NAIA in assists per game (2.820), 10th in total assists (48), 39th in shot on goal per game (8.180) and 45th in goals per game with 2.410. - Jay R. Nicols
