The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority is sponsoring Kentucky College Application Week, November 18-22, 2013. The Adair County School System has jumped on board full steam ahead with Superintendent Alan Reed and Principal Troy Young signing documentation today proclaiming Wednesday November 20, 2013 College Application Day at Adair County High School.

The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority idea behind the Kentucky College Application Week is simple - You can't enroll if you don't apply. In today's world higher education no longer just means a four-year college degree. It can include two-year degrees, certificates, or diplomas from state community and technical colleges. Higher education and training give students more job options, job security, and help them earn higher wages.

Robin Loy, the Adair County High School College and Career Readiness Counselor feels strongly that "the application process should not be a barrier to pursing a college education, and ACHS is committed to eliminating any and all barriers students might face in advancing their skills beyond high school."

Principal Young was asked how he felt about the upcoming event and he stated " We are excited that our students have an opportunity to come into the computer lab and work on their college applications. This will give us a chance to answer any questions that the students may have during the process and make this initial step a great success and as pleasant as possible."

Superintendent Alan Reed spoke with pride when he was asked what he thought about the upcoming College Application Day at ACHS he stated "Adair County High School and its students continue to embrace this community's vision of having all of our district's students college or career ready (CCR) by the time they graduate from ACHS. Students are being provided with more options after graduation. I am personally thrilled that our students recognize that life after high school is very competitive. I also want to thank our parents who also are helping us get the message across to our students that there is a huge dollar cost when their children are ill-prepared when they graduate. I also want to personally thank the administration and teachers at ACHS for their guidance and even a gentle nudge to do plan for life after high school. College Application Day is one important piece of the big picture." - Shamarie Claiborne, Adair County School District Media Coordinator
