News of JFK assassination came over MCHS loudspeaker Comments re article 63366 Chris Bennett is right CM hears and encourages JFK memories By Linda Waggener Chris Bennett has a good idea, documenting memories about the day President Kennedy was shot. Clearest in my mind is being surrounded by the absolute silence following the crackling announcement over the loud speaker in our classroom at Metcalfe County High School. Every one of us in the class stared at the speaker near the ceiling on the beige concrete block wall in that silence, shocked at the news. Getting home to Sulphur Well on the bus was a blur. The next thing I remember is looking at the small black and white TV with the footage of the horrible events in Dallas. Daddy had to keep adjusting the antenna and the clearest station was Channel 5 in Nashville, a CBS station with Walter Chronkite telling the unthinkable news.- - Linda Waggener This story was posted on 2013-11-17 21:37:35
