LWC Basketball/Women defeat Brescia 79-62

Chanel Roberts hs 26 points, 17 rebounds to lead Blue Raiders

COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson women's basketball defeated Brescia (Owensboro, KY) University 79-62 behind Chanel Roberts 26 points and 17 rebounds at Lindsey Wilson College's Biggers Sports Center.



The Blue Raiders (3-0, 0-0 MSC) took an early 9-6 lead behind a Roberts field goal before Morgan Wimberg hit a three-point shot to tie it at 9-9. The Bearcats took the lead at 17-13 after an 11-4 run capped off by a field goal made by Olivia Moore.

Lindsey Wilson continued to miss shots as they missed five of their next six shots, hitting two free-throws to keep it tied at 19. Roberts hit three shots in a row to get within three at 28-25, however Brescia continued its hot streak from beyond the arc as Wimberg hit another to make it 31-25.

The Blue Raiders went on a 7-0 run including two free-throw from Ranika Rone to take a 32-31 lead with 2:34 left in the first half. The game was tied two more times before the Blue Raiders ended the half up two after a Tara Arnold shot went in to make it 39-37.

Lindsey Wilson shot 39.5 percent from the field while the Bearcats shot 52 percent and 58.3 precent from beyond the three-point arc, making 7-of-12 from long distance. The Blue Raiders shot a paltry 1-for-10 from three-point range in the first half.

The Blue Raiders started the second half on an 11- run to jump out to a 50-42 lead early in the second half. Lindsey Wilson pushed it to a 69-50 lead after a 19-8 run as Kayla Richardson nailed two free-throws. The Blue Raiders never looked back and took the game 79-62 after a Candace Foster three-point shot with just over 20 seconds left in the game.

Bre Elder and Richardson each had 10 points in the game with Elder grabbing seven rebounds. Roberts also had three blocks, two assists and one steal. Jamie Cummingsended the game with a team high three steals and two assists to go with her six points.

Lindsey Wilson finished the game shooting 43.1 percent from the field and 70 percent from the field-goal line. The Bearcats shot 42.9 percent from the field while hitting 12-of-13 free throws. - Jay R. Nicol
