This year's luncheon will include a special presentation by Richard Powers of Elizabethtown, KY A retired Army sergeant, Powers has created sculptures that honor a dozen Medal of Honor recipients. His latest tribute is to Kentuckian Dakota Meyer, who received the Medal of Honor in 2011. Powers' tribute to Meyer will be on display at the luncheon.
This is the 11th consecutive year LWC has held the luncheon. Sponsored by the LWC National Alumni Association, it started in 2003 as part of the college's centennial celebrations.
The annual event is not held on Veterans Day so it does not conflict with community celebrations on that day.
"What started as a small, informal luncheon has developed into one of the highlights of the Lindsey Wilson school year," said LWC Vice President for Student Services and Enrollment Management Dean Adams, who is an LWC alumnus. "The luncheon is a great way to honor those who served our nation during both peace and war. Students always enjoy serving the veterans and their guests because they learn a lot about what it means to be a quiet hero and to lead by example." -DUANE BONIFER, Public Relations Director, Lindsey Wilson College
