By Pierce Yarberry News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - Bastien Montagnon scored a golden goal in double-overtime to lift No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer past Shawnee State (OH) University in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament Saturday, November 9, 2013. Keeper Thomas Carbonari made six saves for the No. 8 seed Bears (7-10-1, 2-6-1) to hold the Blue Raiders (14-2-2, 8-0-1) scoreless through 102 minutes. Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson came into the match ranked third in the nation in shots per game (21.7) and fifth in shots on goal per game (10.2). In regulation, Lindsey Wilson had ample opportunities to take the lead. Aleksi Pahkasalo found Jordan Hall on a corner kick in the 38th minute, but Hall's shot was blocked for a team save. Billal Qsiyer looked to capitalize off the rebound, but his shot was high. Tanner Hopwood had the lone shot on goal for Shawnee State, a late rip toward the end of the first half that was saved by Lindsey goalkeeper Yuta Nomura. Lwandiso Gonya just missed putting Lindsey Wilson on the board in the 78th minute when he met a cross near the right post and redirected it. Carbonari turned away the shot to keep the game scoreless. Gonya would later find Montagnon on the left side of the box early in the second overtime and the senior midfielder buried a shot in an open left side of the net. The Blue Raiders outshot Shawnee State 26-4 and held an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks. NEXT: LWC Soccer/Men hosts No. 5 seed Cumberland (TN) University at Walter S.
