LWC Soccer Hosts Shawnee State in MSC quarterfinal

COLUMBIA, KY - No. 5 Lindsey Wilson soccer/women host Shawnee State (Portsmouth, Ohio) University in the Mid-South Conference quarterfinal game on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at at 6pmCT/7pmET, at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY.



The Blue Raiders (15-3, 8-1 MSC) are the number two seed in the conference tournament after losing its first ever game in MSC regular season play to Cumberland (Tenn.) University on October 16. Lindsey Wilson went 4-0, 3-0 in conference play after the loss to the Bulldogs including a 1-0 double-overtime win against then-No. 12 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College on October 29. Lindsey Wilson won the regular season match 8-1 in Portsmouth, Ohio on September 28. Ayaki Shinada had three goals and an assist while Bettina Bruelhart and Katarina Simic had two goals each. Johanna Henrikson made six saves in 74-plus minutes of actions. Allison Nagle had the lone goal for the Bears.

The Blue Raiders are led by junior mid-fielder Shinada who has a team high 46 points. Shinada leads the team with 14 goals and 18 assists in 18 starts. Hurd finished the regular season with 10 goals and four assists while Natasha Gensetter and Jamie Stanton compiled nine and eight goals respectively. Henrikson has started 12 games while playing in 14 and has a 9-3 record with four shutouts this season.

On defense, Carola Schneider, Denise Amin and Michela Bengtsson help lead Lindsey Wilson to nine shutouts during the regular season which ranks eighth in the NAIA. The Blue Raiders defense allowed only 11 goals during the regular season.

Shawnee State (9-6-2, 2-5-2 MSC) lost four-of-six to end the regular season including a 2-2 double-overtime tie with University of Pikeville (KY) on October 26. The Bears come into the tournament as the No. 7 seed.

The Bears are led by Nagle who leads the team with 18 goals and has six assists. Elizabeth Abbott has a team leading eight assists on the season. Emily Kuehn started all 17 games in goal, making 113 saves while allowing 34 goals. Kuehn has six shutouts this season.

In other quarterfinal action in the MSC Tournament, Cumberland (TN) University hosts Bluefield (VA) College, St. Catharine (KY) College hosts University of Rio Grande (OH) and Campbellsville (KY) University hosts Georgetown (Ky) College. All games are scheduled for Saturday, November 9.

The winners will meet in Columbia, KY at Lindsey Wilson College's Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KYon Thursday, November 14 at 1pmCT and 3:30pmCT. The Championship game is Friday, November 15 at 6pmCT.
