Big question this morning: Who will be next Mayor of Columbia? Mayor Mark D. Harris' decision to go for county office opens top City Post With the first day filings, there's already a major question for the day: Who will be Columbia's next Mayor? With Columbia Mayor Mark D. Harris a candidate for the Republican nomination for county court clerk, the office is open Among the 15 filings yesterday, no one filed for Mayor, and no one filed for any of the six council seats. At least two of the council members, Robert Flowers and Charles Grimsley, have mentioned interest in the race, as has former Mayor Curtis Hardwick. The answer may be a long time in coming. While Tuesday, January 28, 2014, is the last day to file nomination papers for candidates who must run in a primary, August 12, 2014, is the last day for candidates to file in the city elections, according to Adair County Court Clerk Sheila Blair.
