What was going on with the dark clouds east of Columbia? The hard rain was cold, Joe Dickson writes. It even formed ice on his steps. He wonders if others noticed the same thing. Click on headline for story with photo(s) By Ed Waggener Columbians were treated to some beautiful skies and silhouttes, with a back drop of dark clouds. No. Rain, just a beautiful backdrop for the sudden autumn we had. Just a few minutes ago, Joe Dickson, of Charles Helm Road in Garlin, sent a picture which shed some light on the darkness. The picture shows ice on his steps. He wrote, "Stepped out on deck just after a rain at around 5:30 pm on November 2, 2013 in Garlin and we found this. Did anyone else have any?, " it was the accompanying photo. The photo was posted, but we wrote note to clarify that he meant "pm," that it was afternoon. He called almost immediately. And yes, it was just a 40 minutes ago - when the temperature was in the 50's. "That's what made it so strange," he said. "Both my daughter Ashley and wife Sheila both saw it. "At first we thought it was hail - but it was ice." He said there was a hard rain up at Garlin. There wasn't any in Columbia, but there were dark ominous clouds to the east seen from Columbia. If anyone else had a similar experience, we'd love to hear from you. -EW This story was posted on 2013-11-02 18:09:47
