Former Supt. Wilbur Gilley, Metcalfe Co., KY (d. Oct. 14, 2013)

He was a member of a distinguished Metcalfe County, KY, family. Mr. Gilley was a retired teacher and former superintendent for the Metcalfe County School System. He was a member of the Dripping Springs Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Herman and Mattie Faulkner Gilley. His wife, Maxine Compton Gilley, preceded him in death. He leaves 4 direct living descendants, spanning 3 generations

Wilbur G. Gilley age 87 of the Wisdom Community of Metcalfe County passed away Monday, October 14, 2013 at Metcalfe Health Care in Edmonton, KY.

Funeral services will be held 1pmCT, Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the New Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be 5pm-8pmCT, Wednesday, October 16, 2013, and after 9amCT, Thursday, October 17, 2013, at the funeral home.



He was the son of the late Herman and Mattie Faulkner Gilley.

Mr. Gilley was a retired teacher and former superintendent for the Metcalfe County School System. He was a member of the Dripping Springs Baptist Church.

He is survived by the following:
  • Two children. A son, Kerry Gilley and a daughter, Patricia and husband William Robert Druen, all of Edmonton. KY

  • One grandson: William Thomas and wife Erin Druen of Georgetown, KY

  • One great grandson William Asher Druen

  • One brother: H.G. and wife Drucella Gilley of Edmonton, KY
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Maxine Compton Gilley; and two brothers Paul and Herman Gilley Jr.

Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, in charge of arrangements.
