On tipping, Carol Perkins has hit it on the head Restaurant veteran Jerry Marshall says the rule is simple: You can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out. And, Jerry is thinking of writing a book - and may naming names about how guests have acted. By Jerry Marshall I have been in the restaurant business for a long, long, time. I have met a lot of nice people, and a few that should have stayed at home. Carol Perkins has hit it on the head. Servers are just poor old working folks trying to make it in this hard world. Granted, some are not cut out for it. But those who have been doing it for any length of time, understand that it IS about the guest. It is a rewarding position. Some do not tip at all, and some under tip, however, most know. I was given the rule of thumb on eating out, some time ago in Bowling Green, KY.
I have served many nice people, and some that must have been on leave from the Psych Ward. Perhaps I have served you! When I release my book, maybe I will name names from across the state. I am still in this crazy buisness, and I think it takes a little craziness to be in it, something to think about when considering causing a server to cry. And yes, do it after you have gotten your food. - Jerry Marshall Comments re article 62647 Carol Perkins It is not about tipping but common decency This story was posted on 2013-10-14 11:27:48
