Adair Fiscal Court approves Parks & Rec Reappointments

At October 8, 2013 regular meeting: Board also hears report from Magistrate Billy Dean Coffey on progress at the Jim Blair Center, acceptance of gift of playground equipment from the Adair County Board of Education; praise for volunteer spirit of Adair County Road Department employees

By Ed Waggener

The Adair County Fiscal Court unanimously approved CJE Ann Melton's recommendation to re-appoint two incumbent Columbia/Adair County Parks & Recreation board members to the panel.
Bobby Bowe (Recent in the news photo) will serve a new 4 year term. He is a county only appointee.
Tommy Steele a joint City of Columbia and Adair County appointee, will also serve a new 4 year term.
Magistrate Billy Dean Coffey (District 5) reported on recent surge of good news from the C/AC Parks & Recreation's Jim Blair Recreation Center at 801 Hudson Street.

Mr. Coffey praised Superintendent Alan W. Reed and the Adair County Board of Education (Floyd Burton, chairman; and members Greg Willis, Quin Lasley, Joseph Payne, and Mike Harris) for their donation of surplus playground equipment left after the school's reconfiguration.

He also praised the volunteer assistance given by six members of the Adair County Road Department: John Denton, Billy Cowan, Phillip Cowan, Terry Williams, Tom Brock, and Jeff Herron, for volunteering labor to assist in moving the playground equipment.

CJE Ann Melton noted that the men responded to the need even after spending the day working in Powder Creek on the new bridge now underway there.

Mr. Coffey said that the response to the need showed that Columbia/Adair County cares. "I really appreciate the show of support; Adair Countians are coming through, especially when it is for the children."

Volunteers are still needed, he said. Volunteers may inquire at the CJE's office, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY, Phone 270-384-4703.
