Sheriff Harrison Moss said that the ACSO Cruiser involved in the mishap Sunday afternoon, October 6, 2013, on Holmes Bend Road in Adair County, hit a patch of water, hydroplaned, and the driver, Lake Patrol Deputy Josh Durbin, lost control and hit a utility pole. Fortunately, he said, Deputy Durbin sustained only a minor scratch.

"It was a combination of very days of dry, hot weather which let oil ooze to the top of the road, which made for a very slick surface with all the rain we had just before the accident."

The cruiser, he said, is nearly ready to retire, anyway. "It's a seven years old and has 160,000 miles on it," he said. Kentucky State Police Post 15 Trooper Justin Phillips investigated the incident.
