Adair County Hospital District implements tax A second round of tax bills, these with only the 2013 hospital tax, are expected to be in the mail in a matter of days. Hospital taxes on Motor Vehicles and Water Craft will be collected starting January 1, 2014 By Ed Waggener The Adair County Hospital District, in a brief meeting which started at 3pmCT today, Friday, October 4, 2013, and was over in about 15, minutes, voted to implement a 10cent/$100 of assessed valuation on real and tangible property and the same amount on motor vehicles and watercraft. The bills for real and tangible property are based on the assessed valuation as of January 1, 2013, and will be mailed as soon they they are calculated, the bills can be printed, and the sheriff can get them into the mail. Taxes on motor vehicles and watercraft will be collected as licenses are renewed in the county court clerk's office starting January 1, 2014. Under the agreed Court Order, the Board was mandated to implement the 10 cents/$100 rate. The rate could have been much higher, but Vice Chairman Neal Gold said that the Board wanted to make the burden on taxpayers as little as possible. The money will come directly to the hospital. How is is used will be under the supervision of the Western District U.S. Bankruptcy initially. The expected revenue will be around $570,000 per year. CFO David Hayes said, after the meeting, that the biggest benefit to Adair County will be as a hospital for the people, "And," he said, "there are 245 employees, with a payroll of $9.9 million annually," he said. "Think what losing that would mean to the economy." All board members, Chairman Craig Pyles, Vice Chair Neal Gold, Treasurer Bruce White, Secretary Richard Grant, and Member Brad Keltner were present, along with CFO David Hayes, Assistant CFO Tammy Curry, Plant Maintenance Supervisor John Speer, Adair County PVA W.M. Feese, JR, and members of the media. Mr. Gold said that the revenue side of the hospital is improving steadily. The behaviorial unit recently reopened under the management of Adanta, is averaging 8-9 patients per day. This story was posted on 2013-10-04 15:32:47
