Papaws were called 'Poor Man's Bananas' Writer hasn't had papaws since her youth. Says, 'It would be something to have someone produce them for sale!' By Von Price I remember these very well...when I was growing up there was a neighbor that had a really big tree in their yard. No one lived in the house, so on our walk home from school we would stop and get some to eat. They were very tasty if they were ripe. But if they were not, they were very bitter. I was always amazed at the seeds in them, they were flat and round and ran down the inside of the Papaw.Always had lots of seeds in them also. I haven't seen one since I was growing up. Amazing! It would be something to have someone produce them for sale. I remember my Dad saying they called them "Poor mans Bananas". Really!
