CCC Property Team considering reward in vandalism of Park

Click on headline for item with photo(s)

By Richard Phelps, Chairman Property Team Columbia Christian Church

The Columbia Christian Church Park located between the Columbia Christian Church and Lindsey Wilson College was damaged by vandals late Tuesday night or in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 25, 2013.

Church member Danny Propes discovered the vandalism early Wednesday morning. Vandals broke all light fixtures and bulbs inside of the shelter, rode over three light fixtures that have had already been vandalized once before. Turned over tables, broke railing on a wooden bridge and chopped into a supporting post.

A reward is being considered and hopefully police will soon learn the identity of the vandals. - Richard Phelps

Progresss slowed by vandalism

2013-09-26 - Christian Church Park - Photo by Ed Waggener. The Pavillion at the Christian Church Park shows shows little of the damage and the promise of improvement in this photo taken after an episode of hooliganism trashed the park, sometime in the wee hours Wednesday morning. However, eigh light fixtures inside the shelter were destroyed and damage elsewhere was extensive. The Columbia Christian Church owns the park, and has been making steady improvements over the years. The foundation work is for restrooms one of the few amenities lacking there. The park is just two blocks from downtown, is near the Trabue-Russell House, and adjoins Lindsey Wilson College and the Columbia Christian Church, 206 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. The Columbia Police Department is investigating and the church is offering a reward.

Standards for light globes ridden over

In the midground, one of the remaining standards supports a globe light fixture, similar to one removed from the vandalized one. The globes, made of a rugged acrylic, had been tossed in the weeds. Columbia Police are investigating the vandalism and the Property Team at the Columbia Christian Church are considering a reward.
