COLUMBIA, KY, September 16, 2013 - As part of the Race to The Top-District grant, Adair County High school has established a career center to serve students and families in the community.

The center is the home of Robin Loy, College and Career Readiness Counselor for Adair County Schools.

Mrs. Loy is now available to assist students and families with college and career planning and she had this to say about the newly established center
"Ultimately our goal is empower students and parents to take ownership in planning for and meeting college and career readiness goals. I have been given an incredible opportunity to serve the students, families, and teachers in Adair County as the College and Career Readiness Counselor with Kid-FRIENDLy and the Green River Educational Cooperative as part of the Race to the Top-District grant. The more I learn about the vision and direction set forth in this grant, the more excited I get about the opportunities that will become possible for our students. We want the career center to be a place where students and families will come to work on their personalized learning plans and have access to the best and latest job information in our region, as well as college access information. I will be working diligently to help families identify local and regional opportunities that are realistic and attainable."
Kid-FRIENDLy is a consortium of 22 school districts in the Green River and Ohio Valley Educational Coops with a plan to revolutionize education through a $41 million dollar Race to the Top-District Grant. It is the largest award given out and it is very bold and innovative in its approach to education.

Kid-FRIENDLY will support Adair County's teachers in being more intentional about linking content to careers as we prepare the students in our classrooms for life beyond high school. The week of September 23- 27th has been designated as College and Career Awareness Week at Adair County High School.

A variety of events have been planned for the week to increase awareness of available college and career options and to begin building relationships with community members from a wide variety of occupational backgrounds. See also: College and Career Readiness Events.

Business community invited to become active partners with school system

We invite the business community to become active partners with school system. As we begin the journey toward personalizing learning for ALL students we need your support. The kid-FRIENDLy mission is to create FOCUSED, RESPONSIBLE, IMAGINATIVE, ENGAGED students who are DETERMINED to LEARN. In doing so, we can no longer pretend that there is a one size fits all model.

The excellence that we seek won't happen overnight but we ask that you keep the end in mind. We aim create quality students. Students who are prepared to make an immediate impact in our work force. Students who value the importance of being lifelong learners. Students who are ready to compete and excel in a global economy.
