Unspoiled strip by Jim Blair Park herbicided to nearly bare dirt

Alicia Bosela writes:
I agree with Mr. Fudge. Another case in point of missed opportunity by local leadership is the formerly "unspoiled" strip on "our side" of the Jim Blair community park.

It was herbicided to nearly bare dirt, then replanted to grass, prob. fescue, despite many who agreed that leaving the very narrow strip was a small concession to nature and our local natural heritage. Native insects rely on native plants. We have seen the royal walnut moth, the Polyphemus with 5 in. wing span, among others...all these insects form the food base for native birds.

In addition, I offered to give and plant dozens of FREE native plants in this area to a city council member and received no follow up. It is business as usual for opportunities to demonstrate active leadership. --Alicia Bosela
