Assisted Transportation Systems adding Toyota facility More jobs for Columbia, KY with homegrown, private economic development Click on headline for story with photos By Ed Waggener Rob Wilkerson of Assisted Transportation Systems, LLC, said that the growing company has added a another Columbia site, the Hancock Building on Fairground Street, Columbia, KY, to convert Toyotas to assisted transportation vans. ATS, whose principals are Rob Wilkerson and his parents, Ken and Linda Wilkerson recently acquired the large manufacturing building, and in a separate purchase, acquired the rest of the corner which formerly was Burton Bros. Service station. Wilkerson did not announce exact plans for that property. A new facility in Green River Commerce Park is now used to convert Chrysler, Dodge Vans, as well as Ford Transports. The company has been experiencing rapid growth, shipping the conversions all over the United States and to other nations. A big order - 100 vans for the Mexican government - has just been received. The company is expecting the vans to begin arriving soon. The family has been making large investments in downtown and near downtown. Dr. Lynda Wilkerson recently opened Adair Friends and Neighbors adult day care center in a building owned by the county. Rob Wilkerson had previously announced his retail business, Adair Gun & Pawn, is moving to new quarters in the former JR Foods store on Campbellsville Street. And now, the addition of the Toyota Conversion Facility will boost private sector payrolls with the addition of 10-15 high paying jobs. Thirty people are now employed in the company's Green River Commerce Park. This story was posted on 2013-09-19 07:20:26
