COLUMBIA, KY - Operation Christmas Child is set to kick-off at Lindsey Wilson College on Saturday, September 21 when the Blue Raider football team hosts Pikeville (Pikeville, KY) at 1:30pmCT at Blue Raider Stadium, 828 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.

Collection boxes will be located at the entrance of the stadium where people can donate items such as toys, clothing, school supplies or personal items for children age two to 14. The items will then be placed in shoeboxes and sent to needy children worldwide.

"When Denise Fudge (Lindsey Wilson College Vice President for Educational Outreach and Student Financial Services) approached me about the athletic department being involved in this charitable project, I was very excited," Lindsey Wilson athletic director Willis Pooler said. "Our student-athletes are very involved with the youth of Adair County. They participate in the Camp Casey program, the Blue Raider Aquatics Club, the youth soccer league and Lil' Kickers and are often involved with after-school reading programs to name a few.

"Their involvement with Operation Christmas Child is a natural fit and gives them an opportunity to bring smiles to the faces of children all over the world."

The Lindsey Wilson athletic department will continue to collect items at all home athletic events as well as in the athletic office until November 15. The goal is to collect 10,000 items to stock 600 shoeboxes and send to children in need.

The Lindsey Wilson Freshman Year Experience participated in this project last year and was able to send over 500 shoeboxes to children around the world.

National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child is November 18-25. Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse International Relief, began a "global Christmas gift exchange" in 1993.
