Commentary: Liked Carol Perkins article

But she's proud to say her own downtown, in Campbellsville, is thriving and has never looked more lovely. She hopes its success will be an encouragement to all the other communities in the area.

By Shelia Wade

I enjoyed reading your sense of humor article Carol. For most part it is true for some communities. However, I must say this has not come to pass for the Campbellsville , KY, community. Our city has never looked more lovely. The downtown area is filled with beautiful exotic and colorful planters up and down main street.

Our alleys have been restructured with flowing fountains, seating areas and archways. New lighting replaced the outdated fixtures and modern colorful flags blow in the wind and greet our visitors. . . not to mention the hanging baskets of fresh flowers hanging along mainstreet.

Our streets and sidewalks have been redone to focus on the decorative components to draw the eye to different areas. I am very thankful for the beautiful cosmetic makeover that out Mainstreet Committee has brought about...Thanks to them we now also have a main stage for use of special music and programs for our citizens.

The broadway area is in the process of receiving a new fountain area being built by Campbellsville University. This too will beautify our city...Only hoping this will be an encouragement to other cities in our area. A big thank you is in order. - Shelia Wade
