ATV rider flown to UK from KY 379, Russell Co., KY crash scene

Oversteering after leaving highway blamed

JAMESTOWN, KY -Trooper Ryan Wolking is investigating a collision that occurred on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at approximately 5:30pmCT, 16 miles south of Jamestown on KY 379. 65-year-old Vyvyanne D. Ponder of Jamestown was operating a 1987 Suzuki Quad runner ATV while traveling north on KY 379. The vehicle dropped of the shoulder of the roadway and Ponder over-steered in an attempt to regain control causing her to be ejected from the vehicle. Ponder was not wearing a helmet and was flown to University of Kentucky Hospital where she is being treated for her injuries. Trooper Wolking was assisted at the scene by Russell County EMSS and the South Russell Fire Department.
