Writer suggests No Spray signs if county mass-sprays poisons A simple truth: Maybe you don't care what happens to the environment, but in the future your children might? Heather Evans writes in suggesting a compromise if worse comes to worse. By Heather Evans I also disagree with the use of mass spraying. I can see where it might be useful around rocks, drainage pipes, or where no mower can possibly go. However, if mass spraying will be used, I urge home owners who don't want thei property sprayed to put a No Spray sign up. They would then be responsible for keeping the tall grass at bay. In the community where I live everyone's property is groomed. Usually, the mower does not need to trim in front of our houses, etc. There is a drift effect (with herbicide use) and I would hate to lose plantings that have been there almost 15 years. I do not use chemicals or weed killer of any kind. Just because Roundup etc is on the market, doesn't mean its safe. Drain cleaner, alcohol, and cigarettes are unsafe, yet they are on the market as well. There are other options rather than taking the chemically, unsafe, unknown long term effects route. Maybe you don't care what happens to the environment, but in the future your children might? --Heather Evans This story was posted on 2013-09-12 09:34:16
