Effects of runoff on aquatic life. Anyone know the answer? Some questions yet to be answered on widescale use of herbicides: Does anybody know what the effects of herbicide run-off is on streams and aquatic life? The tonnage of herbicides used in Kentucky is? By agriculturists? By State and Local Road Departments? Are there any ongoing studies of local streams by any of colleges or university science departments? It would be interesting to know. - EW As the decision on whether to conduct spraying is debated by the public, there is a modest amount of concern about herbicide and pesticide runoff and the kill-off of aquatic life. Research on the subject led to the discovery of a nifty piece by James Bruggers in "Watchdog earth, Kentuckiana.Green.com" on the Courier-Journal website: Army Corps launches Green River Watershed study The article contains a great video on the Green River, which Bruggers says is "worthy of large scale conservation." The video should be of interest to all readers of ColumbiaMagazine.com, whether they have concern about herbicides or not. A decision onmass scale herbicide spraying in Adair County is to be made by January 2014, maybe earlier, by the Adair Fiscal Court - CJE Ann Melton (See her statement: We are losing the war against vegetation), Harold Burton (1), Daryl Flatt (2), Sammy Baker (3), Perry Reeder (4), Billy Dean Coffey (5), Joe Rogers (6), and Billy Rowe (7).
