Adair Co. competing Sept. 17, 2013 in High Attendance contest

By Sharmarie Claiborne
Adair School District Media Publicity Coordinator

Kentucky Schools will be having their annual "High Attendance Day" on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 and for districts such as Adair County that will not be in session that day it will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013.

Schools across the state will compete in small or large school categories with the school having the highest percentage attendance in each category being awarded $500.

When asked about why attendance is important our own Director of Pupil Personnel Mr. Robbie Harmon had the following to say:
"We all realize the importance of regular attendance to school. Regular and on time attendance to school helps keep students active in their school and in their classrooms. It helps foster continuous learning and builds a sense of responsibility within students. For younger students regular attendance helps keep them in a regular routine and allows for the foundation of a solid education. "For older students regular attendance helps prepare them for the greater responsibility that comes with college and career opportunities. Regular and on time attendance also shows a commitment to sticking to a task and instilling pride in a job accomplished. "Good attendance to school not only helps students academically but builds responsibility for years to come. Preparing students to handle what life sends their way is a big part of our mission. "Learning for a Lifetime is our district motto and teaching kids to be on time, punctual and regular in attendance are all part of the big picture."
It should also be noted that research has shown that regular attendance plays a major role in student success. When students attend class regularly they keep up with lessons and assignments better which in turn creates academic success. Yet, students with irregular attendance may not develop the responsibility, and effective work habits which are crucial to success not only in school but life.MBR - Shamarie Claiborne
