What's Here at the Farmers Market, 409 Fairgrounds ST, Columbia, KY

The Farmer's Market at the Adair Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY is open this Friday morning, August 30, 2012, from 6am-10amCT.

By Holly Kerns & Prof. Jeff Scott
  1. Holly Kerns, Sano, KY - Zucchini, Yellow Squash, Bell Peppers, Hot Peppers, Green Beans, and Onions. Also: Red Potatoes. White Potatoes. Blue Potatoes.
  2. Prof. Jeff Scott of Scott's Orchards, Antioch - Yellow Delicious. Enterprise. Galas. Spy Golds. If you want apples for the weekend, come today, I won't be selling tomorrow, in town. At Antioch, we take Labor Day arduously, and observe it passionately, eschewing labor. A note: on Cooking vs. Eating Apples. Some neophyte apple cooks have learned that sweet eating apples are easy to cook. The difference is it doesn't take as long to cook a Gala as it does a Granny Smith. But cooking a Gala longer is the way some like them. They become almost like a chewy candy when they don't some off the cook stove quickly. - Jeff Scott
The Adair County Farmers Market proudly accepts Senior and WIC vouchers. For more information, contact the Adair County Extension Service at 270-384-2317. - Nick Roy, Adair County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources
