ACMS 8th Graders learn about the Incas, Mayans, and Aztecs Social Studies student in Mrs. Wells' and Mrs. Taylor's classes have hands on learning Click on headline for story with photo(s) By Shamarie Claiborne News from the Adair County School District The Adair County Middle School 8th grade social studies classes have been learning about the Mayas, Incas and Aztec civilizations since school started. Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Wells wanted students to have hands on learning in connection to this week's information which centered around Inca and Aztec culture. The two main concepts were that the Aztec had three calendars they used throughout the year and the Incas believed after they died they would live in another world. Students created one of the Aztec calendars called the Aztec Ritual. The Aztecs used this calendar to determine which days were lucky or unlucky, so they would know when to hold a ceremony, go to war, marry or offer sacrifices. To make students feel more connected to the Incans they created Death Mask which would have been placed over they mummified body of the Incan. This mask was usually vary colorful and made of gold. - Shamarie Claiborne, Adair Schools Media Publicity Coordinator This story was posted on 2013-08-29 12:43:54
