From Anne Sanders, Campbellsville 911

The Campbellsville Police Department recently was awarded their first re-accreditation certificate during the 41 conference held in Lexington July 28-August 1, 2013. The Campbellsville Police Department was first accredited in 2008. The accreditation cycle is every five years. The current accreditation will be in effect until 2018.

The presentation of accreditation awards was held during an awards banquet Wednesday July 31 at the Marriott Griffin Gate. Mayor Tony Young, Chief Tim Hazlette, and Deputy Chief (Captain) Patricia Thompson were on hand to accept the reaccreditation certificate. Deputy Chief Thompson serves as the Accreditation Manager for the department. Mrs. Patti Benningfield, CPD Office Manager, serves as Accreditation Coordinator.

The Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police Law Enforcement Accreditation Program available to departments that wish to enhance overall agency effectiveness and professionalism. Accredited departments benefit from the use of consistent and proven procedures, clearly outlined policies, and efficient practices.

Accreditation is a way of helping institutions evaluate and improve their overall performance. The cornerstone of this strategy lies in the promulgation of 160 standards containing a clear statement of professional objectives. Participating administrators then conduct a thorough analysis to determine how existing operations can be adapted to meet these objectives. When the procedures are in place,a team of independent professionals is assigned to verify that all applicable standards have been successfully implemented. The process culminates with a decision by an authoritative body that the institution is worthy of accreditation.
