Proud to Be An American, Adair Countian, and a Veteran Only in Adair County: 'I have been doing PGR rides for 4 years or so and from one end of Kentuckyy to the other. At no time or place have I ever seen every single car stop for a funeral procession... ' - JOE HARE Click on headline for complete commentary. By Joe Hare, Patriot Guard Rider Commander, Columbia VFW Post 6097 It is very easy for any of us to find something to gripe about, especially about our own county. Today I can say I am very, very proud to say I am an Adair Countian. As a member of the Kentucky Patriot Guard Riders and VFW, we were invited to honor a fallen veteran, Bobby Gene Pike, here in Columbia. As the PGR, we had 26 bikes here to escort Bobby to his final resting place, the Bear Wallow Cemetery. Due to the construction on KY 206 it was necessary for us to go up Jamestown Hill and east on KY 80, then across Green Hills Road back to KY 206. I don't know the number of cars that we met on the 10 mile trip, but it was several and there was not a single car or truck which did not stop, and many pulled to the shoulder, to honor the funeral procession as it passed by. I have been doing PGR rides for 4 years or so and from one end of Kentuckyy to the other. At no time or place have I ever seen every single car stop for a funeral procession. So thank you drivers on Jamestown Street, E KY 80, Green Hills Road and KY 206 who stopped in honor of a fallen veteran today. This simple act means so very much to us, PGR and other veterans to see one of our fallen brothers honored by this small gesture. Again, thank you. Proud to Be An American, Adair Countian and a Veteran. - Joe Hare, SRC Ky PGR, Commander, Columbia VFW Post 6097 This story was posted on 2013-08-02 18:55:25
