As we begin our second year here at the Adair County Adult Education Center, 108 Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, KY I would like to take a moment and reflect back on the success of this first year and all who helped make it possible.

When my staff and I began this journey we were overwhelmed and excited at the opportunity to prepare the residents of Adair County for whatever their life had in store for them, whether it be continuing their education or furthering their employability skills.

As with all programs of this nature, reaching State set goals is mandatory.

Reaching these goals seemed nearly impossible and would have been without the support of community members and business leaders of Adair County.

It is because of their support and the support of this county that I can proudly announce that the Adair County Adult Education Center has not only reached our first year goals, but has ended the 2013 year ranked 24th out of 120 counties in the state of Kentucky.

As of June 30, 2013 the Adult Education Center had 264 students enrolled, 42 GED awarded, and 40 Silver and Gold National Career Readiness Certificates awarded.

Out of the 264 students enrolled, 59 students continued their education on the college level.

I would like to thank business and community leaders and citizens of Adair County for all their support within this first year. We are working to make this program one that Adair County can be proud to have.

Our goals for the 2013-2014 year are 306 students enrolled and 61 GED awarded. With the support of this community, I know anything is possible. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you Adair County for the first of many successful years.

If anyone is interested in any of the services we offer please call us at 270-384-7475 or 270-384-1741.

The GED test is changing effective January 1, 2014, and anyone who has not successfully completed each section of the GED will need to do so before December 18, 2013 otherwise you will be required to retest in all subjects.

In the anticipation of the computer based test, we are offering on-line classes starting August 19, 2013. Anyone who is interested in registering for these classes can do so at any time by calling the center at 270-384-7475. - LeAnna Bennett
