David Dews named Lindsey Wilson Softball Coach

New coach's goal is National Championship. He replaces Ashley McCool-Cozart, who resigned to take the head coaching job at North Alabama College

By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director

COLUMBIA, KY- Lindsey Wilson Athletic Director Willis Pooler announced Tuesday, July 30, 2013, that David Dews has been hired as the next head coach of the Blue Raider softball program.

Dews comes to Lindsey Wilson after six successful seasons as the head coach at Darton State College, Albany, GA.

"David has all the attributes we were looking for in a coach to continue the great success of Lindsey Wilson softball," Pooler said.

"My goal is to take the success that Coach McCool established here at Lindsey Wilson and continue to build on it with my system and ultimately compete for a national championship." Dews said.

Dews led Darton State to a pair of National Junior College Athletic Association World Series appearances, including a fifth-place finish during the 2011 national tournament.

His Darton State teams won four Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association regular season titles and a pair of state championships. Last season, Dews' team finished 37-15 and tied for second place in the GCAA with a 12-4 conference mark. He owns a 231-79 career record at Darton State.

In his six seasons at Darton State, Dews helped more than 40 student-athletes move on to play at a four-year institution.

Prior to taking over the Darton State program, Dews served two seasons as head coach at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (Alabama) and four seasons as the head assistant at Wallace Community College (Alabama).

Dews replaces Ashley McCool-Cozart who resigned earlier this summer to take over the same position at North Alabama.

Lindsey Wilson finished the 2013 season with a program-record 50 wins. The Blue Raiders won their fourth straight Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament titles last season while reaching the NAIA National Championship Opening Round.

The Blue Raiders' 2014 scheduled will be released later this fall.
