LWC Singers honor U.S. Military killed in D-Day Invasion By Duane Bonifer News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - A group of Lindsey Wilson College students celebrated the July 4 holiday by paying tribute to Americans who paid the ultimate price for to preserve the nation's freedom. A select ensemble from the Lindsey Wilson Singers performed July 4 at a Memorial Recital and Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Normandy American Cemetery in France. The students performed under the direction of LWC Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Ensembles Gerald Chafin. A total of 73,000 U.S. soldiers were part of the 156,000 Allied troops who took part in the June 6, 1944, D-Day invasion, the largest amphibious invasion in world history. Almost 2,500 U.S. soldiers were killed during the invasion. The students who participated in the July 4 event in Normandy were: John Brown of Albany, KY; Allison Chafin of Columbia; Amber Clark of Kennesaw, Ga.; Jeremy Cloyd of Tompkinsville, KY; Kailyn Conner of Albany, KY; Andrew Ferguson of Columbia; Chelsea Pike of Campbellsville, KY; Emily Ramage of Columbia; Bailey Scott of Auburn, KY; Christian Talley of Columbia; and Lydia Tiller of Columbia. - Duane Bonifer, Lindsey Wilson College This story was posted on 2013-07-07 15:43:04
