Comment on History: Gettysburg July 4 1863 By Peggy Fudge Usually, the Fourth of July is a day for celebration and maybe a little thought about the reason for the holiday. But, watching the rain today makes me think of the accounts of another Independence Day. July 4, 1863, was the day after the battle of Gettysburg. The sky opened up over the battlefield the day after a three fight that resulted in more casualites than any other battle on American soil. Every American should know about this and other important events in our Civil War. There are plenty of good books, movies and reliable internet info about this and other US history. So, if the rain is washing out your barbecue, take advantage of your time inside and increase your knowledge of the events that have brought us to where we are. - Peggy Fudge This story was posted on 2013-07-04 13:47:15
