Tobacco-free Schools Policy: It means Tobacco-Free. Period

Vocational Agricultural Department will not be growing tobacco as part of its program

By Alan W. Reed, Superintendent
Adair County, KY School District

I have read the questions from some of your readers related to the Board of Education policy addressing the use of tobacco on school property. The specific policy, which went into effect yesterday, July 1, 2013, is as follows:
Policy on Use of Tobacco

The use of any tobacco product is prohibited twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, in any building and on any property owned or operated by the Board. This will apply to indoor and outdoor facilities, inside Board owned vehicles, stadiums/athletic fields and during school-sponsored trips and activities. Activities occurring before, during and after school hours, on weekends and during vacation periods are included in this prohibition.
I would hope that all Adair countians respect this policy and understand that our primary responsibility is setting positive and healthy examples for our children. In the spirit of cooperation, our Vocational Agriculture Department will not be growing tobacco as part of its program.
