Jerry Gale Coffey, Adair County, KY (1951-2013)

He was a native of Wayne County, KY and a member of a highly regarded Adair County, KY, family. His wife of 35 years, Joanne Peterson Coffey, survives. He leaves 6 direct living descendants. Jerry was a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran and trained in Germany with the Big Red One, First Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged in 1972. He enjoyed fishing and being with his grandchildren

Jerry Gale Coffey, 61, of Columbia, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 29, 2013 at his home.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 1pmCT/2pmET, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Gerald Hancock officiating with burial in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with military honors presented by VFW Post 6097. The family request visitation after 4pmCT/5pmET, Monday at the funeral home.



Casket bearers are Troy Hancock, Alex Hancock, Chris Bryant, Brandon Bryant, Josh Taylor and Dale Burris.

Honorary casket bearers are Gary Peterson, Joe Peterson, Jeremy Peterson, Matthew Peterson, Scott Simon, Eric Simon, Jonathan Bryant and Jeremy Lane.

Special casket bearers are Cy Yarberry, Brody Brock and Macy Yarberry.

Jerry Coffey, Adair County, KY (1951-2013)

He was born on Thursday, September 12, 1951 in Wayne County, KY, and was the son of Charlene Hancock Taylor of Columbia, who survives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, who helped raise him, Loren and Glenna Hancock of Adair County; his granddaughter, Reagan Grace Brock; his aunts, Jewell Law and Geneva Hancock; his uncle, Edgar Hancock; his father-in-law, John Peterson; and his brother-in-law, Larry Peterson.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joanne Peterson Coffey of Columbia, KY, and the following
  • Two daughters: Jennifer Brock and her husband Ray of Columbia, KY; and Mindy Yarberry and her husband Kevin of Columbia, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Cy and Macy Yarberry and Brody and Cooper Brock

  • One sister, Jean Bryant and her husband David of Columbia, KY

  • Three brothers: Gary Lane and his wife Ruth of Brodhead, Ky; Ricky Taylor and his wife Donna of Columbia, KY; and Darin Taylor and his wife Sheila of Columbia, KY

  • His mother-in-law: Jean Peterson of Sheridan, IL

  • A brother-in-law: Gary (Carol) Peterson of Waterman, IL

  • A sister-in-law: Evelyn (Scott) Simon of Montgomery, IL

  • And by his aunts and uncles: Oral Hancock, Rosella Hancock, Vera and Starlin Burris, Betty and Leamon Burton, Gerald and Martha Sue Hancock, Jay Reed and Nancy Hancock, Carolyn Sue and Rick Perry, Jeff and Patricia Hancock and Ronnie Hancock

  • And many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
